IMPORTANT Freight Acceptance Instructions (2)
Please Read Carefully Before Accepting Any Order from Freight Carriers!
Be ready to unload the shipment and have someone ready to help if necessary. Commercial freight is “always” curbside (or dockside). Sometimes the driver will roll the freight inside but they are under no obligation to do so. You will need a dolly or “hand truck.”
Be advised that because we’re probably shipping to a private residence or storage unit I know you don’t have a loading dock. Therefore, I pay extra for a “lift gate” to make unloading easier. Without a lift gate being ordered the carrier may assume you have a loading dock, and if not they may require you to unload it off the end of the truck to the ground (which is inconvenient at best, and dangerous at worst). If a freight carrier ever shows up without a lift gate tell them to come back another time with the correct truck (DO NOT “refuse” the shipment as that will return it and result in additional shipping costs to you). TERMINOLOGY IS IMPORTANT. Do not EVER refuse a shipment. Furthermore…
While the truck driver waits, please inspect your shipment for any exterior and/or concealed damage. Also, count the total number of cartons and confirm that they match the delivery receipt. CAREFULLY NOTE any shortages and/or damage on the delivery receipt. Take photos for later reference if helpful.
If you sign for the shipment free and clear, the freight company could turn down any further claims and there may be no recourse for broken, damage, or product shortages. It is best to sign the shipment “damaged” even if there are slight marks or scuffs on the shipment in case of concealed issues (even though later there proves to be no actual damage).
When you accept a shipment with damages, mark the freight bill "damaged." This will help the claim process.
AGAIN… never “refuse” the shipment. Simply note the above and take photos if helpful.
IMPORTANT
After delivery is complete please open and inspect your goods as soon as possible after delivery. If there is any damage please take photos and email to me with a description of any issues so we can initiate the claims process and ship your replacement goods. If that happens do not be concerned as we will take care of it for you.
TIMELY
After about 5 business days freight claims become increasingly difficult so it’s very important to notify us promptly to assure that there is no loss to you.
After receiving and reviewing, please let me know if you have any questions.
